Camp Jam Rock 'n' Roll Summer Day Camp to Rock Coast to Coast in 14 Cities in 2007
Atlanta, GA (PRWeb) January 29, 2007 -- Camp Jam, the popular rock 'n' roll summer day camp for kids and teens with the mantra "No Canoes, Lots of Rock," announced today that it will rock and roll into a total of 14 cities in 2007, with sessions being offered for the first time in Phoenix, Denver, Los Angeles and Orange County, Calif. The innovative summer camp designed just for young rock musicians and singers will also return to Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Orlando, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Washington, DC. At all locations, Camp Jam will offer both its original program for young rockers, ages 11 to 17, as well as its new Camp Jam Kidz program designed just for ages 7 to 10.
Created by renowned rock guitarist/songwriter Jeff Carlisi, who was a founding member of platinum selling act 38 Special, and his longtime business partner Danny Lipson, Camp Jam has gained national prominence as an innovative summer camp since it first launched in Atlanta in 2004. The Camp Jam program gives young musicians who might otherwise spend their summer months playing in the garage or basements the chance to meet other musicians their age for the rock 'n' roll experience of a lifetime -- from forming their own bands and playing a rock concert to hanging out with rock music legends. More importantly, Camp Jam offers them the opportunity to improve their performance skills, build confidence and practice teamwork; all lessons that last long after their week at Camp jam is over.
"The Camp Jam program is just as much about teamwork and building confidence as it as about giving these kids a place to live, breathe and play rock 'n' roll for a week," noted Carlisi. "Young musicians of all levels of experience, whether they've been playing for six months or six years, have the chance to meet and perform with others their age while developing the fundamentals needed to work together and perform in a band."
On how parents have welcomed Camp Jam with open arms, Carlisi explained, "Ten or 20 years ago you wouldn't have been able to do this, but today a majority of parents are from the rock 'n' roll generation and are more engaged. They're even encouraging their kids to pursue rock music, either as a career or hobby. It's really bringing families together. I have parents coming up to me and saying, 'I just want to thank you for what you've done for my child. You've changed them.' That's been our goal with Camp Jam from the start: to enrich lives through playing rock 'n' roll."
In each city, Camp Jam will offer multiple, five-day long sessions, with most attendees signing up for at least two consecutive sessions. The Camp Jam program for ages 11 to 17 features instrument-specific instruction on guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and vocals, all of which are provided by professional instructors and with access to top-of-the-line gear provided by Peavey, Yamaha, Promark , Dean Markley and Sabian. Attendees participate in songwriting and recording classes where they learn how to collaborate on a song and attend a course in basic audio engineering and production. Placed in a band on the first day of camp, attendees learn the fundamentals of practicing with a group and rehearsal techniques, and on the final day, the camp hosts a full fledge rock concert featuring all camp bands performing for their friends and family.
Camp Jam, which is endorsed by NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, also offers "Master Classes" where music veterans share firsthand accounts of life in the business. In the past, appearances have been made by notable performers, including Rolling Stone keyboardist Chuck Leavell, Billy Joel's drummer Liberty DeVitto, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee Ed King, of Lynyrd Skynyrd, and industry pioneers like rock radio personality and executive Leslie Fram.
For the youngest rockers, ages 7 to 10, there is Camp Jam Kidz, a program that gives kids with little or no musical experience the chance to learn about and play any instrument they choose. Previously offered only in Atlanta and now in all markets, Camp Jam Kidz features guest musicians showing each instrument in action and taking questions from all the campers while counselors are on hand every step of the way to help each child learn about and play their instrument. Every camper also designs an original album cover during the week, and at the end of the week, all campers get on stage and perform with a real rock band.
Camp Jam and Camp Jam Kidz are now accepting registration for all 2007 summer sessions with special discounted rates available for attendees who register before February 28, 2007. Space is limited.
